Who is involved?
Behind Door Number 1 is of course your favorite dog Dookie and the Springfield Stars, considering this is my PR.
Behind Door Number 2? It's the ever lovable Larry and the Irvine Gang Green.
And behind Door Number 3 is one of the longest serving and most universally respected GMs, Bill Chan of the St. Louis Browns.
So, what's the deal??
______________
Irvine will be welcoming one of their own back home.
SP Dae-ho Kim (BSA, SPR) will be returning to the California based organization where he made his minor league debut at just 15 years old in single A. Kim is said to be excited at the idea of returning home to see old friends, colleagues, and to start competing at the highest level in his old stomping ground. Dae-ho will be welcomed with open arms by the many fans that were devastated to see him leave almost exactly 3 years ago to this day (July 21st, 2025). Kim has enjoyed a wonderful rookie debut after his cup of coffee last season, and Stars fans are sad to see him go despite their well known love for hitters and disdain for throwers.

Irvine will also be receiving $2.5M in cash, which more than covers his remaining salary this season. Kim will be hopping from one playoff race to another, but his 12-1 record this season seems to tell us he'll do just fine.

St. Louis will be entering into an unofficial, moderate rebuild by receiving two quite promising starting pitching prospects, both of whom look capable of contributing at the BSA level within a 2-3 seasons.
SP Martin Marino (single A, IRV) is the further away of the two from the BSA level, but his arsenal is undeniable, with multiple plus-plus pitches and 4 in total. With a couple more seasons of development he should become a formidable contributor in the CL East. Marino was signed as an IFA in 2025 and after much hard work in Irvine's complex, has found himself pitching at single A at just 19 years old. He has a 10+ career k/9 and with a bit more experience at this level, should dominate like he did during his debut in rookie ball last year (3.5 era over 65 IP at 18 years old)

SP Jeff Sandusky (AA, SPR) is the second starter packing his bags and heading over to St. Louis. Sandusky's trip will be much shorter, however, just a few hours drive from Wichita where he has been strutting his stuff. Sandusky has accrued over 10 war since the start of the 2027 season, and looks poised to hit the majors around 2030. A former first round draft pick in 2025 and the current 35th prospect in the BSA, Sandusky has an impressive 5 pitches and uses them well, as can be seen by his 1.76 era and 242 Ks last season. He will look to one day fill in for the void created by the next player in this 3 team deal.

St. Louis will also be receiving a whopping $7M to help balance their budget and build toward the future in the ever competitive CL East.
______________
Springfield will receive one prospect and one major league starter.
SP Claudio Martinez (BSA, STL) will be the new #2, slotting in between Jose Lopez and Kyu-pyeong Pak. While Martinez may be a step down from Kim in terms of price certainty and youth, GM Shoes hopes he can build on the 12-1 record Kim had and continue to push the Stars toward another playoff berth. Unconfirmed rumors out of the Springfield camp indicate Martinez will be given the nickname "Carlos" after Carlos Martinez of the alternate universe Stl Cardinals.

SP Rien Middelkamp (A, IRV) is final piece in this deal, a Dutchman signed out of IFA by GM Rice way back in 2023. At only 20 years old and in AA, his future is promising. His 3.21 era across all levels indicate he should be able to challenge for a spot in the starting rotation if and when one opens up in the next few seasons. For now, he'll be given ample time to continue development.

As the BSA approaches the 2028 deadline, some are saying this deal might kickstart a flurry of others as teams look to reassess their place in the playoff push.
When pushed for comment, GM Shoes had this to say, "This deal was admittedly unexpected even a few days ago. The timing was right, the players were right, and the GM's were willing. GM Rice and GM Chan were fantastic to work with, making themselves easily available for contact and helping these negotiations reach a swift conclusion without much fuss. The deal looks to strengthen all three squads, either now or in the future, and we'd be happy to do business with these organizations again." He concluded with these parting comments, "Kim and Sandusky have been excellent servants for the Stars org. We are happy to see Dae-ho return home and wish them both all the best in the future."
