Nashville June PR: Drafting a #1 hit

For the 2nd year in a row, Nashville Team President had the #1 pick in the draft again, putting a lot of pressure on him to find a difference maker.

"We understand what kind of expectations come with a ball player going first overall, but we just want him to come in and continue to do what he's been doing throughout his career."

In his first year it was SP Luis Castillo out of Villanova, and this year they took SP Manny Campos out of Northwestern. Northwestern is located in Evanston, which is the same town that the new Nashville A team plays in. But that's not the only connection Campos has to the franchise.

"The BSA started when I was just a kid, and growing up in Kenosha my family and I naturally cheered for nearby Madison." said Campos in his introductory press conference. "It's really cool to play for the team that you rooted for growing up, even if they're in a different city now."

Campos was asked if he's upset that the team is no longer in Wisconsin.

"Moving is part of the league, and I accept that." he responded. "It will be fun to one day pitch against Chicago, a lot of my friends growing up were Machine fans, and still are."

GM AB had a pragmatic response when asked about the draft as a whole.

"It's really just about getting the best players we can at the picks we have. After that they all start in our organization at the same place, and it's up to them to show us what they can do and for our staff to help them reach their full potential."

And when asked about whether he drafts best player or by position:

"We always try to go best player available, but we do look at our organizational depth and sometimes will target positions where we feel we're weaker."
