As the Rocks' are on a flight out of Los Angeles on their way home after being swept by the So Cal Bruins, Sims is sipping on a glass of scotch trying to get the taste of being swept out of his mouth. He is not fond of any liquor really but tonight is a special night and defeat is hard to swallow. On the flight home he thinks about all the moves he did and did not make to make this season as good as the last. Should he have pushed harder to get a deal done for Mike Hill? Offense was a big reason for the teams failures in SoCal. Should he have not forced the manager to start Jose Martinez on short rest? Should he have sat his starters the last week of the season instead of chasing the #1 seed again? His defense star at 3B was lost for the year because of this. As he finishes he his glass he realizes that none of this really matters anymore. The season is over, So Cal was better and Plymouth needs to continue to move forward.
October 25th, 2028
The next morning in Plymouth Sims stumbles into owner Doug Derry's office for the their end of the year meeting. Derry and Sims have never really seen eye to eye on anything. Derry is a shitty owner and Sims never bites his tongue when being criticized by Derry. Since becoming the GM of the Rocks every year Sims has to answer for every dollar he has ever spent. They go over everything from the scouting budget, staff, players all the way down to Sims own personal salary. This is the most miserable day of the year since in the world of professional sports some things work out and somethings don't. For some reason today Sims really has no patience for Derry's bullshit. When he ask about acquiring more pitching and no hitting at the deadline Sims loses it. He tells Derry how he really feels about everything that Doug Derry is involved in. Sims reminds him that he took the Plymouth franchise from a bottom feeder of the league to a champion. When it is all said done Sims does what he feels like his is only option left...he resigns as the Plymouth GM.
As Sims walks to his car he gets a call from an unknown number from a 617 area code. Not really wanting to talk Sims reluctantly answers the phone. "Hello? This is Chase?" said the strange voice from the other side of line. "This is he." Sims responds. "This is Alexander Posey, the owner of the Boston Rebels. I hear you are looking for a job..."
Attached is a memo to the fans of Plymouth.
To The People Of Plymouth
What a journey this has been. What started as a rookie, 36-year-old GM taking over a historically bad franchise in Cleveland to Joe Thomas selling the franchise to [Removed] in 2024 to bringing Plymouth home the championship it deserved. To Plymouth I owe everything. You are the ones who believe in my passion and you are the ones who continued to believe in the dream even after a rocky start. Without Plymouth I am still just a kid from Baton Rouge just looking for his first big break. Together we made Plymouth Great.
While the situation did not turn out how I wanted or plan it is what it is. I have never seen eye to eye with my boss and after having to answer why I allowed the team to have name brand drinks instead of RC Cola I realized that enough was enough. Over my years in Plymouth we brought nothing but progress and success to he who shall not be named. While we fought our way to the top he was out and about doing whatever he wanted while asking why he had to provide the team with meals before games. So I did what I felt had to be done. I walked away from him leaving everything I built over the last six seasons.
The decision to leave was not an easy one for me but I had a plan. The plan was to take a season off to decide if being a GM was the right thing for me. As I was walking to my car after resigning as the GM of Plymouth I received a call from Alexander Posey, the owner of the Boston Rebels (how he knew I quit so quickly is beyond me.) He offered me an opportunity that I could not turn down. The Rebels -- with their passionate fans, dedicated ownership, tradition, and World Series drought -- represented the ultimate new challenge and the one team I could imagine working for after such a fulfilling Rocks experience. Also I could watch Baffin Island GM, Aaron Blank, try to chase what I created all the while building up another organization to fuck him again, hopefully at the same time but in a different hole. So I have accepted the job as the Boston Rebels GM. I really do wish things did not have to end but this is the right move for my family and myself. Plymouth still has a very bright future and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the support that you all have given me over the years. The future for me has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime so what better place than here and what better time than now.
#makethenleastgreatagain
Sincerely,
Chase Sims
