What do these additions mean to St. Charles? Harrison will spend this season on the bench, filling in for an infield starter during a scheduled off day. Santiago, Longoria and Conway will fill out the bullpen while Hines will be given a chance to be a part of the starting rotation, as the Sheens have hinted that nobody on the pitching staff is untradeable.
Santiago, a 24-year-old native of the Dominican Republic, comes to the team from Niagara Falls, where he spent the past four seasons buried in single A Nantucket. In those four seasons, he appeared in an astounding 187 games, starting 171 games. What's even more amazing is that he started 12 games in 2024, followed by an even more incredible 50 games, 54 games and 55 games in the next three seasons. His career totals are 65-34 with 4 saves and a 3.16 ERA. He's pitched 928.2 innings, allowing 771 hits, 227 walks and 1102 strikeouts. His inability to reach 90 mph doesn't bother St Charles scouts, as he has good command of his three pitches.
SPECIAL NOTE: Santiago won both the APL Outstanding Pitcher Award and the APL Outstanding Hitter Award in 2025 and 2027.
Harrison, 24, entered the Irvine Gang Green farm system in 2024, and immediately won the 2024 Pioneer League GCL Championship with the Jasper Cougars. He won the single A title again in 2026. In four seasons with single A Jasper, he hit 290 with a .387 OBP. In 361 games, Harrison had 258 hits and 139 walks while striking out 182 times. But his biggest value might be in his flexibility in the field, as he can play five different positions.
SPECIAL NOTE: Harrison put up better numbers with runners in scoring position (14-47 with 21 walks and 23 RBIs) than with the bases empty (10-42 with 7 walks and 1 RBI).
Hines, 24, was drafted by the Toronto Titans in the third round of the 2023 ammy draft, then spent three seasons in single A Dunedin before the Titans franchise became the Houston Marshals and the single A farm team moved to El Paso. Hines floundered on the mound his first two seasons in Dunedin, but turned things around in 2025 when he put up stellar numbers, going 5-1 with a save in 50 appearances, allowing just 35 hits and 23 walks in 55.1 innings (1.05 WHIP) while striking out 82. He took a minor step back in 2026 after tearing his shoulder but impressed scouts in 2027, going 8-3 with 5 saves, going 154.2 innings and allowing just 92 hits and 81 walks (1.12 WHIP) while striking out 223 batters. He has a full arsenal of pitches, and can hit 94 mph with his fastball, but he needs to limit the free passes before he can become an effective pitcher.
SPECIAL NOTE: Hines struck out six batters while pitching 3 innings or less five times in 2027.
Longoria, 23, was a seventh round pick by Springfield in the 2024 ammy draft after spending two years in Oregon. He was injured much of 2024, including a torn labrum that sent him on the DL for 7 months, but still managed to put up quality numbers for single A Lee's Summit. In four seasons in single A, he appeared in 155 games, going 15-9 with 28 saves, allowing 189 hits and 113 walks in 246 innings pitched, while striking out 310. He throws three different pitches and can hit 97 mph, with his curveball being his strikeout pitch.
SPECIAL NOTE: Longoria was not a fan of home cooking in 2027, as he stunk on the mound in home games. At home, he had a 4.99 ERA, allowing 50 hits (including four home runs) and 26 walks in 48.2 innings pitched. On the road, he had a 1.58 ERA, allowing just 35 hits (none being home runs) and 14 walks in 45.2 innings pitched.
Conway, 23, was selected by Greenville out of Maize High School in the 10th round of the ammy draft. He excelled with the glove in high school, winning the 2021 HSSL Glove Wizard Award at pitcher.Greenville had him spend much of his playing time in single A Columbia, where he started just four games while appearing 211 times in relief. He missed over a year of action after getting reconstructive surgery on his elbow in 2024. However, he has done better on the mound since the surgery, and even helped lead the Columbia 08s to a Midwest League Championship in 2027. He can barely hit 90 on the speed gun, but has excelled at keeping hitters off balance with his sinker.
SPECIAL NOTE: Conway does his best work the later he appears in a game. From innings 4-6, hitters were 21-82 with 7 walks (.256 avg, .315 OBP) against him with 3 HRs and 13 RBIs. From innings 7-9, hitters went 53-241 with 25 walks (.220 avg, .300 OBP) with 1 HR and 19 RBIs. In extra innings, they only went 1 for 9 with a walk (.111 avg, .200 OBP).
The Rule V draft saw the Sheens lose three players of their own, as outfielder Tanyu Imai, catcher Shawn Gutierrez and pitcher Jim Daniel were all selected by other teams. The Sheens wish them the best with their new teams.
