It's the dawn of a new era in the BSA. Nevada baseball!
Last year, team President Mike Branda came in with a bang and worked a flurry of trades in an effort to turn Los Cabos into an instant contender.
The team didn't gel, and the abort button was pressed mid-season and thus began Plan B.
Now, the team is built to avoid tanking - but build as deep a farm system as humanly possible.
"We want to create our own feeder league. This farm system will be the envy of the league within five years," Branda explained.
On the major league side, the team is aiming for an 81 win season.
Catcher:
Julian Madrid, the future Hall of Famer is not pleased with management after they DFA'd him in an attempt to have somebody take his contract off their hands. But, he's gotten over it for the most part.
Madrid his 30 HR, 91 RBI last year with a .825 OPS. He's still a solid hitter and if a contender loses their starting catcher, they would be fools not to check in here.
First Base:
Tom Waller will get another chance here, he's nothing special. LAst year hit .748 OPS in 56 games.
Second Base:
Stephen Wilson, another very talented player that could find a new home this year if somebody is looking for an upgrade.
Third Base:
Rich Ruffin was brought in for his glove for the most part. He has hit below average recently, but if his glove does its job - then Nevada will be happy.
Short Stop:
Vern Carlton, like Ruffin is here for his glove. He struggled with the bat last year but we are trying to focus on a solid defensive club.
Outfield:
Stanley Mullins, Fernando Martinez and Edward Young will make up the starting outfield for the Noise. The two corners can provide solid offensive output while Martinez is still a gold glove talent in CF.
Designated Hitter:
Willie Wallace will be the starting DH, with Jeff Cole waiting for his chance. For now, Cole will be the backup and pinch hitter.
Rotation:
Erwin Entwistle will be asked to lead this rotation. He'll be supported by Kiyomizu, Arthur Lopez, Carl Henry and Cliff Long.
Arthur Lopez is a real interesting case. He's 21 years old, and was a member of the AA team last year. But his off-season and spring earned him attention in the Nevada front office.
Bullpen:
The bullpen is a collection of alright arms. Nothing crazy, maybe we'll get lucky. Antonio Martinez is the closer and bright spot in the bullpen.
Team Overview:
I'll be focused on the minor leagues, but hoping to keep this squad near .500 if I can.
There are so many prospects we adore right now, but we'll get to that later.
Good luck to all of those who hope to contend this year!
