But even with some hardware finally in the trophy case one thing was inevitable...
With majority of the team locked up, 30 million in cash stashed under the bed and a 20 million dollar budget increase this off-season could have went to many different directions. So Plymouth went out and bought all the top free agents and struck fear in everyone's hearts right? No they didn't do shit. Spent over the limit in IFA and put 12 million back into scouting that was taken out the year before to help pay for Roberto Garcia.
Plymouth traditionally has spent in IFA but never over the 3 million. This year they went shopping a brought home some good looking pieces but we know they will all fade to irrelevancy over the next couple of years. Here are the Plymouth IFA trophies (because you know all we do is win).
OSA is a bigger fan too!
Another player OSA is a fan of!
Yes I am showing off my IFA guys it was a long fucking off season!
This off-season has been miserable for Plymouth. Now that Spring is finally here life gets more exciting right? Meh, I guess but not really.
Plymouth did sign some actual major league talent though! Plymouth signed closer Robinson Gonzales who spent him in both Hendersonville and Greenville last year. Gonzales had a great year last year throwing 72.2 innings of 3.22 ERA ball and an amazing 7.80 K/BB ratio (78 k's to 10 BB). Plymouth front office expects those numbers to improve as he moves to a bigger ball park with better defense and a lesser offensive division. Along with Gonzales, Plymouth also signed another ex-Beaver (3rd in 2 seasons), Antonio Ramos, who is projected to be the lost man in the pen. Ramos is a career 3.65 ERA pitcher but that is also expected to be better this year in Plymouth. Unlike Gonzales it will not be ball park and defense that will make the difference for Ramos. Plymouth front office honed in on Ramos weaknesses...blondes and lefties.
Here we are finally at spring training. We do have games which makes things better, we do have actual signings which gives us a better picture of the league but still doesn't have the excitement that Opening Day carries. As Opening Day the 2026 Plymouth Rocks will raise their flag that will fly forever and then get back to the grind of attempting to do something that has not be done since Toronto in 2018 and 2019.
